After the ads Neil and Gloria were seated - Neil had finished eating!! Gloria asked Neil to tell the story of You Don't Bring Me Flowers. He explained how he and the Bergmans were asked to write a song for an upcoming TV show called All That Glitters. He explained that it was a show in which the roles of males and females had been reversed. He thought it would be a good idea to write a torch song for a man - the sort of song that is usually associated with a woman being let down by a man. |

They completed the requested one minute song and were quite pleased with it. However there was a conflict with the producer. Neil said he didn't like to give up the ownership of his songs any more so it was not used. He and the Bergmans went on to complete it and it was then included on an album. Barbra Streisand liked the song when she heard it and recorded it herself. |

Coincidentally they both recorded it in the same key and with the same
arranger. Disc jockeys cut it and turned it into a duet. It was played on the radio
and lots of people requested it so Neil and Barbra went and recorded it properly in the
studio. It turned out to be a great hit. Gloria went on to ask who was the lovely girl who sings it with him on stage. Neil told her it was Linda Press. |
| Gloria said there was only one more question to ask Neil -
"What song are you going to sing?" He replied that it could only be one thing - SWEET CAROLINE |
